Maniratnam is unarguably one of the legendary filmmakers of this generation. But, he has not tasted a big success in last couple of decades. After the blockbuster success of Sakhi in 2000, Maniratnam has not scored a big blockbuster. But with Ponniyin Selvan-1, the director offered a visual treat and scored a big blockbuster. PS-1, based on Chola Kingdom went on to mint more than 400 Cr gross at the box-office in all languages. There is a lot of anticipation for the second part of Ponniyin Selvan.
According to sources from Kollywood industry, Maniratnam is likely to partner with Rajinikanth again. After the cult blockbuster Dalapathi in 1991, they never got a chance collaborate again. The post production works for PS-2 will start shortly and the film is likely to release in 2023 summer.
Unlike Ponniyin Selvan, Rajinikanth-Maniratnam may not be working for a historical action drama but they are expected to join hands for an emotional journey of a person that depicts both highs and lows in his life. Currently, Rajini is working under the director of Nelson Dileep Kumar for ‘Jailer’ and in the coming weeks, there will be more clarity about this project.
