T20 World Cup: Scotland defeats two-time World Champion West Indies

T20 World Cup Scotland West Indies

In the first two days of the T20 World Cup, we witnessed two major upsets. While Namibia stunned everyone by beating Sri Lanka yesterday, it was Scotland that shocked us by defeating two-time World Champion West Indies today. In the third group game held today, Scotland registered a massive 44-run victory against the West Indies.

After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first. Scotland got a good start from its openers George Munsey (66) and Michael Jones (20). Both of them made a partnership of 55 runs for the first wicket. In the middle overs, Caribbean bowlers bowled tightly and scalped wickets in regular intervals. In the end, MacLeod (23) and Chris Greaves (16) gave good support to Munsey. As a result, Scotland made 160/5 in 20 overs.

West Indies started off the chase well. Though it lost the wicket of Kyle Mayers(20) early, Evin Lewis (14) and Brandon King (17) showed sparks in the beginning. But that’s when Scottish bowlers came back hard and started taking wickets in quick succession. Apart from Jason Holder (38), no other batter couldn’t survive in the crease. As a result, Windies got all-out for 118 in 18.3 overs. Mark Watt scalped four wickets (3/12). Brad Wheal (2/32) and Michael Leask (2/14) got two wickets each.

We have to see how West Indies will recover from this huge loss. It plays its next game against Zimbabwe on October 19.
