After a gap of three years, COVID-19 is witnessing a sudden spike in Asia, especially in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. Even India reported multiple cases over the last few days and Visakhapatnam also registered the first COVID case in the new wave. Meanwhile, it is being said that the illness still remains endemic and there is no need to panic, as of now.

According to the reports, a 23-year-old belonging to Maddelapalem joined a corporate hospital four days ago with the complaint of fever. When tested for COVID-19, she tested positive. As her health condition is stable, she was later discharged from the hospital. The health officials confirmed that she has no recent history of travel.

Earlier, a 14-year-old and a 54-year-old individual passed away due to COVID-19 in Mumbai this week. As per Singapore’s Ministry of Health, new variants LF.7 and NB.1.8 (descendants of JN.1 variant) are the major reasons behind COVID-19’s rapid spread in the country, accounting for two-thirds of locally sequenced cases.

Symptoms of the current wave include cough, nausea, sore throat, conjunctivitis, brain fog and vomiting. Experts say that the surge in COVID-19 cases is due to a decrease in the immunity of people. They urged people to get vaccinated and take necessary safety precautions to be safe from COVID-19. They also appealed to people to seek immediate medical treatment if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms.
