The Film Federation of India (FFI) shocked everyone by picking the Gujarati film Chhello Show (Last Film Show) as its official entry for the 95th Academy Awards and snubbing everyone’s favourite, RRR. The SS Rajamouli directorial film has been getting immense love in America for the last few months. Thus, everyone thought it would be India’s official entry to the Oscars. But the FFI had other plans.
Now, RRR cannot compete in the Best International Picture category. However, its US distributor decided to launch a full Academy campaign for this movie. According to Variety, RRR’s US distribution company Variance Film decided to submit the film in the following categories.
- Best Picture
- Original Screenplay (SS Rajamouli and V Vijayendra Prasad)
- Lead Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan)
- Supporting Actor (Ajay Devgn)
- Supporting Actress (Alia Bhatt)
- Original Song (Naatu Naatu)
- Original Score (MM Keeravani)
- Cinematography (KK Senthilkumar)
- Best Production Design (Sabu Cyril)
- Best Film Editing (Sreekar Prasad)
- Best Costume Design (Rama Rajamouli)
- Best Makeup and Hairstyling
- Best Sound and Visual Effects
Variance Films is also planning to make RRR available in the Academy Streaming Room. This will help the film in getting a wide viewership among Academy members. If campaigned well, RRR still has a chance to make it to the Oscar nominations.
