Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan has a sensational run at the box office even in the third week of its release. It is doing well, especially in Tamil Nadu. Already, PS-1 crossed the 400-crore mark worldwide and the 6-million mark in the USA.

According to the latest trade reports, PS-1 is inching closer to the 475 crore mark. It will cross the milestone very soon. Though there are two big Tamil releases this week, Sardar and Prince, we hear that the theatre owners are interested in screening Ponniyin Selvan during the Diwali festive weekend too.

We can expect the film to generate good box office numbers in the next few days, due to the festive weekend. Meanwhile, PS-1 became the fifth Tamil film to collect more than $15 million in terms of total overseas gross. The other four films that achieved this feat in the past are Endhiran, 2.0, Kabali and Vikram. On the whole, PS-1 became one of the biggest hits in the history of Tamil cinema.

Ponniyin Selvan features various stalwarts like Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Nasser, Sobhita Dhulipala and Rahman. AR Rahman composed the music for it. Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies have jointly bankrolled the project.
