The biggest release of 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water aka Avatar 2, was released across the globe the other day. There were heavy expectations around this movie in India as well. It had a wide release in English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Everyone expected Avatar 2 to cross the day 1 record of Avengers: End Game in India. However, the first-day collections of James Cameron’s directorial fell short of Avengers: End Game’s earnings in India by a significant margin. According to the trade reports, Avatar 2 collected Rs 45 crores nett in India. It is the second-highest day-one grosser in India among Hollywood films. End Game is still in first place with day 1 collections of Rs. 53.10 crores.
Most of Avatar 2’s earnings came from South India. Especially, the collections were humongous in the Telugu states. North Indian audiences aren’t showing keen interest in getting into theatres after the pandemic. Avatar has been affected by it. With positive word of mouth, the collections are expected to improve this weekend.
Meanwhile, we hear that Avatar 2 earned $136.5 million across the world as of now. We have to see if it beats Avatar’s record of becoming the all-time highest-grosser in the coming days.
