Director Gautham Vasudev Menon came out of his comfort zone and made a gangster film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu starring Simbu. The film was released on September 15 and opened to good word-of-mouth reviews. In Kollywood the film had a great start at the box office during its first two days.
Later, though the film saw a significant drop for a few days, the collections became steady right from the second week. Interestingly, this film is now inching towards the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office worldwide.
Mainly, during the weekdays, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu has seen a gradual decline in collections but collected good during the weekend. However, Kollywood reports suggest that the film will pick up pace as there are no big releases this week also in the Tamil industry.
After completion of one week, on Day 8, September 22, the film added Rs 1.20 crore approx to its total collection.
This film marked the third collaboration between Simbu and Gautham Menon after two super hit films. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is a gangster film written by B Jeyamohan. In this film, Simbu and Siddhi Idnani played the lead roles. Radikaa Sarathkumar, Appukutty, Neeraj Madhav and Siddique were seen in supporting roles. Produced by Ishari K Ganesh, Gautham and Simbu will join hands once again for the sequel to Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.
