‘Ponniyin Selvan’, master filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s most ambitious project, which is made on a huge budget, was released last weekend across the country in all 5 languages, including the IMAX presentation. The film received a lukewarm response, but the box-office numbers say otherwise.
Having a huge star cast of Vikram, Aishwarya, Trisha, Karthi & Jayam Ravi, the film was touted to be the most ambitious and personal project of Mani Ratnam.
On its release, the film was panned in Telugu, while the Tamizh audience response was quite welcoming. Except for this, the citation the film got from all other languages was not so plausible. Since the film was made on a huge budget, trade pundits & the film team were quite silenced about the collections, but the numbers seem to disagree with the reception.
On its day 3, the film collected & crossed the 230 Cr mark worldwide. This is very much unexpected for the kind of response the film received globally.
If this trend continues, the film is all set to not only secure it budget but also enter the profit zone.
