It looks like now’s the turn of Japan to get bowled over our S.S. Rajamouli’s brilliance. His recent blockbuster “RRR,” starring Ram Charan & Tarak, reportedly said minting up huge numbers at the Japanese box office. It looks Jakkanna’s promotions paid off in Japan too.
After completing its world run with a gross of $145 million, ‘RRR’ was released in Japan on Oct. 21 with 209 screens & 31 Imax screens across 44 cities, the widest release for an Indian film in the country. It is reported that “RRR” collected JPY73 million ($495,000) in just one week, making it the highest first-week collection. It is also estimated that the film shall recover release costs and enter into profit within 10 days of release.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Muthu’ remains the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in Japan with a box office collection of JPY400 million in 1998 and ran for a year. In the second position is Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, followed by ‘3 Idiots’, ‘English Vinglish’, ‘PadMan’, ‘Dangal’ and ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’
