Slight Rise in COVID-19 Cases in India; Health Officials Urge Calm

India has recorded a minor uptick in COVID-19 cases in recent days, as per the latest update from the Union Health Ministry. Since May 12, the ministry’s dashboard shows 257 active cases across various states, with the majority being reported from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.

While this marks a slight rise, health officials have assured that the situation remains under control. The authorities emphasized that there is no cause for panic and that they are closely monitoring the developments.

The increase in cases is likely linked to newer COVID-19 variants originating from Southeast Asia. A report highlighted similar trends in Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Thailand, where experts believe waning antibody levels contribute to renewed outbreaks. Medical professionals caution that India could witness a similar pattern, though for now, the rise remains limited to a few states.

Despite the slight spike, the overall public health outlook remains stable.
