Master filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan Part 1’, which was released over a month ago, is still holding its grip over the box office at several locations across the globe. Although the reception was lukewarm, the amount being minted by the film is nothing but a wonder to everyone.

According to the reports, the film marks its record of scoring Rs. 500 CR worldwide by the end of its run on its 32nd day. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ holds the record of being the second Tamizh film to achieve the Rs. 500 CR mark after Rajinikanth – Shankar’s ‘2.O’. It has collected around Rs. 230 CR, making it the highest-grossing film in the state, while the overall domestic collection is reported to be around Rs. 335 CR. Even the response in overseas locations was very much beyond the expected and it earned close to Rs. 170 CR, making it a whole Rs. 500 CR gross worldwide.

Being made in two parts, the first part has managed not only to recover the investment but also made the film a very profitable venture. The second part is slated to release in the early half of 2023
