Earlier this year, Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu teamed up for a film titled Kushi. Shiva Nirvana of Ninnu Kori and Majili fame is the director of this project. As per the latest reports, Kushi has done a phenomenal non-theatrical business.
If the latest buzz is anything to go by, Kushi collected around Rs. 100 crores through its non-theatrical rights. Apparently, the audio rights alone were sold for more than Rs. 13 crores. The final figure includes dubbing rights, satellite rights and digital rights in multiple languages. This is indeed a huge figure for a mid-range hero like Vijay.
Moreover, Vijay’s last film Liger was a disaster. Still, if Kushi managed to do this kind of pre-release business, we have to agree that his stardom hasn’t decreased a bit. Going by these figures, the theatrical rights will be sold for around 50 crores. So, the overall pre-release business will be around Rs. 150 crores.
We still don’t know if these numbers are genuine or if the makers are spreading them in order to gain hype. As of now, the shooting of Kushi has been halted due to Samantha’s health condition. It will resume once she recovers. Mythri Movie Makers is bankrolling the project.
