After clean sweeping the ODI series by 3-0, Team India started off the T20 series against West Indies on a winning note. In the first ODI held in Trinidad, India won by 68 runs. Dinesh Karthik has been awarded Man of the Match for his scintillating knock of 41 runs off 19 balls.
After winnings the toss, West Indies chose to bowl. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishab Pant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya have made their comeback to the Indian squad. Openers Rohit (64) and Surya Kumar Yadav gave a stunning start to the team by making a partnership of 44 runs in just 4.4 overs.
After SKY departed, no other batter gave support to Rohit. However, he completed his half-century in the process. When Rohit departed, Karthik (41*) took charge. He got good support from Ashwin in the backend of the innings. They made a partnership of 52 runs in the last four overs. As a result, India made 190/6 in 20 overs.
West Indies was never really in the chase because Indian bowlers started taking wickets at regular intervals right from the beginning. With fiery spells from Arshdeep Singh (2/24), Ravichandran Ashwin (2/22) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/26), India managed to restrict West Indies to a score of 122/8 in 20 overs. The second T20I will be held on August 1.
