Kalayan Ram’s socio-fantasy film Bimbisara, finally hit the screens today. Directed by Mallidi Vasshist, this periodic drama seized the attention and affection of the audience with its trailer. Released amid decent expectations, let’s see how it is.
Story :
The story revolves around Bimbisara (Kalyan Ram), a ruthless king of the Trigartala kingdom. Bimbisara stays so evil and tries to conquer other kingdoms without any mercy. However, due to a curse his life totally changes and he will be sent to the present day world filled with troubles. What is that curse faced by Bimbisara? What’s the connection between the past and present? forms the crux.
What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:
The film is a time travel concept blended with fantasy elements and is narrated in a top form. Debut Director Vasshist needs special mention for his engaging direction as well as writing a very interesting story. The way he portrayed modern day emotions came out quite well and gave the audience a new experience. Kalyan Ram gives his career best performance. Mainly his body language as a king, top notch. MM Keeravani music stands as the main pillar of the film.
Once twists are revealed, the second half looks bit low. Also infront of King role, the other character of Kalyan Ram looks bit down. Also the biggest drawback is the weak villain role.
Performance of Cast & Crew
After not-so-impressive films, except Pattas and 118, Kalyan Ram returns as a valiant King and breathes life into this larger-than-life role with ease. He portrayed the Bimbisara role, with right bearing and voice modulation. He not only made a strong transformation for the role of Bimbisara, but he also made a strong comeback. He is totally flawless.
Both Samyuktha Menon and Catherine Tresa gave outstanding performances. However, Catherine has to take care of her weight. Prakash Raj performed well as usual. Srinivasa Reddy and Vennela Kishore got notable roles, and they both successfully pulled it off.
M.M.Keervani’s music score is high and stands as biggest asset. A big thumbs up to new director Mallidi Vashist. He surely has a bright future in Tollywood. Production values are top-notch. VFX needs a special mention. MM Keeravani elevated Bimbisara‘s ferocious spirits.
First Half & Second Half:
The fantasy elements in the first half are showcased with proper logic and emotion. There is drama, fun, and realistic narration which makes the first half very good. Mainly interval bang stands Interesting, and connection to past and present has been showcased in the best way. Jr. NTR’s monologue at the film’s start served as a morale booster.
Second half continuous the first half engaging elements but gets low, once twists are revealed. Few scenes would have chopped in this half.
