According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani Group, became the first Asian to overtake France’s Bernard Arnault to become the world’s third-richest person.
With a total net worth of US$ 137.4 billion, this 60-year-old business tycoon has surpassed the wealth of Louis Vuitton chairman Arnault and is now just behind business magnate Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos in the ranking. The net worth of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos is currently at $251 billion and $153 billion, respectively.
Adani has expanded his coal-to-ports conglomerate and ventured into everything from media and alumina to data centers. Advani’s industries now also own India’s largest private-sector port, coal miner, city-gas distributor, and airport operator.
With this, Adani’s wealth soared $60.9 billion in 2022, that is almost 5 times greater than anyone else. Initially, he overtook Reliance founder Mukesh Ambani as the richest Asian in February to become a centibillionaire in April and surpassed Microsoft Corp.’s Bill Gates as the world’s fourth-richest person in July.
