After a lot of speculation, it is now confirmed that for the first time in almost 22 years, the Congress party will not have Gandhi at its administrative helm. For a long time, the battle for the post has been between the senior leaders of the party, Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge.

However, finally, Senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge emerged victorious in the face-off with Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor in the Congress Presidential elections, the sixth in the party’s 137-year-old history.

Kharge got 7,897 votes, while Shashi Tharoor secured 1,072, and 416 were invalid. In total, 9,385 votes were polled in the election. Kharge is going to take the oath as AICC chief today.

The program is said to start with thanking Sonia Gandhi for her services as AICC President. Later, AICC Central Election Authority Chairman Madhusudan Mistry will hand over the certificate to Mallikarjun Kharge as the President of the Congress Party. Later, Kharge will address his party leaders in the capacity of AICC president.

AICC former president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, CWC members, AICC general secretaries, PCC presidents, and CLP leaders will attend the meeting. Many Congress leaders have already reached Delhi to attend this event.

Before taking the responsibilities, it is heard that Kharge met former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his residence and spent some time with him. On Wednesday morning, tributes will be paid to Mahatma Gandhi at Kharge Rajghat. Kharge will also visit the memorials of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram.
