In a drastic turn of events, an IndiGo flight was grounded in Delhi as the engine of the plane was caught in fire, just seconds before the take off. A video featuring the plane in fire has went on viral on Friday night.
According the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) preliminary report, the incident took place around 9:45 PM. “On 28-10-2022 indigo A320-Ceo aircraft VT-IFM operating flight 6E-2131 (Delhi-Bangalore) was involved in reject takeoff as Engine 2 Fail warning came. Loud bang was heard. Fire extinguisher bottle was discharged. Aircraft returned to bay. It has been grounded for inspection,” the DGCA said. It was also said that the passengers were evacuated not until 11 PM and they were accommodated on another flight around midnight. Its is also reported that around 184 people on board the Airbus A-320 aircraft and IndiGo flight 6E-2131 is safe.
The DGCA shall have a detailed probe to be carried out into this incident. In the official statement, IndiGo said, “An aircraft operating flight 6E2131 from Delhi to Bangalore experienced an engine stall during take-off roll. The take-off was aborted, and the aircraft safely returned to the bay. All passengers are being accommodated on an alternate aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers.”
