Monkeypox first case registered in India

After COVID, the Monkeypox virus is now shaking the nation. The Monkeypox cases are registered in multiple countries, but India was yet to witness one. However, the other day, the doctors identified the first Monkeypox case in the country. The government is also busy finalizing the guidelines and sending out precautionary measures to control any virus outbreak further.

Monkeypox spreads through close contact and was first found in monkeys, and it mostly occurs in the west and central Africa. The incubation period of monkeypox is usually from 6 to 13 days. Human-to-human transmission is known to occur primarily through large respiratory droplets. It can also be transmitted through direct contact with body fluids or lesion material and indirect contact with lesion material.

In order to keep the nation safe and healthy, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to the Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary (Health) of all States/UTs, reiterating some of the key actions that are required to be taken by all States/UTs in line with MoHFW’s guidance issued on the subject.

On Thursday, India registered its first case in Kerala. A traveler from the UAE had this virus. The Kerala state health minister has issued clarity over the same.

“A Monkey Pox positive case is reported. He is a traveler from UAE. He reached the state on 12th July. He reached Trivandrum airport, and all the steps are being taken as per the guidelines issued by WHO and ICMR,” said Kerala Health Minister Veena George.
