Indian Grandmaster Harika Dronavalli’s long-standing dream of winning a medal in the Chess Olympiad has finally come true. She is part of India’s women’s team that won the Bronze medal in the Chess Olympiad. What made this achievement so special is that she won the medal during her pregnancy.
18 years ago, Harika made her maiden appearance in the Chess Olympiad when she was 13. Since then, she participated in 9 Olympiads but the 2022 edition happens to be the first one in which she won a medal. Harika is emotional after winning a medal during her ninth month of pregnancy.
Harika decided to participate in the Chess Olympiad when it is shifted to India from Russia. With the doctor’s permission and family’s support, Harika participated in the tournament. She decided not to have a baby shower or any other party until she wins a medal. She worked hard every single day and night to make her dream come true. Finally, it became true and Harika is on cloud nine. Take a bow champ!
