Starring Aamir Khan, Naga Chaitanya’s Bollywood debut Laal Singh Chadda has hit the theatres today. Presented by Megastar Chiranjeevi in Telugu, the film bagged decent expectations. Let’s see how the flick is.
Story :
The story depicts several decades in the life of Laal Singh Chaddha (Aamir Khan), a kind-hearted and slow-witted man who witnesses and unwittingly influences several defining historical events in the 20th-century.
What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:
Laal Singh Chadda is faithful to Forrest Gump from the floating feather to the plot structure. Same like in its adaption, in this film also Laal Singh Chaddha’s personal journey goes through several socio and political situations that every common man will be able to relate with. Dialogues are beautifully written. First half impresses you with great humour and high scenes. Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo is the biggest highlight.
However, right from the post interval, the film starts boring. Editing would have been a lot better in this half. Even the songs are neither impressive nor soothing. Also, Amir Khan’s certain unintentional habit of his character becomes too repetitive after a while.
Performance of Cast & Crew
Aamir Khan once again proved he is Mr.Perfect. From becoming the champion athlete in the college, to Laal’s loyalty to his best friend Balaraju Bodi aka Bala (Chaitanya Akkineni) from his army days, the character has a childlike innocence and Aamir carried it out with ease.
Kareena Kapoor as Rupa showcased a brilliant performance in creating a female role who is attracted not just to simple men, but to the man beneath the simplicity. A special mention for Naga Chaitanya as he brings life to the Bala character. His role is impressive. Mona Singh as Laal’s mother did a decent job. Manav Vij’s character as Mohammad has several layers of emotions and he carried it out well.
Coming to the director, For the most part, Advait Chandan’s Laal Singh Chaddha remains faithful to the original material. From the feather up top to Laal’s ‘magic shoes’ he made it the same. But not all of Advait’s creative liberties land. Editor Hemanti Sarkar could have concentrated more on second half. Coming to music, Tanuj Tiku’s background score is high, but Pritam’s compositions doens’t impress you much. Dialogues are beautifully written
First Half & Second Half:
The first half of this film is crisp with a lot of humour and great emotions. But it is the second half that needs a lot of editing as the second part seems long with few unnecessary scenes.
Impressive:
Production Values
First Half
Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya’s performance
Unimpressive:
Lacks regional nativity
Second Half
‘The IBC News’ take on Laal Singh Chaddha:
On the whole, if any Hollywood film lends itself to full-tilt Bollywood melodrama, then it’s “Laal Singh Chaddha ”. Emotions are carried well but on the flip side, some scenes go totally mindless and the second half looks too lengthy. And there’s a big doubt whether this film can reach Telugu audience nativity are not. However, If you ignore flaws here and there, Laal Singh Chaddha is one time-watchable.
One-Line Review:
