Amidst this, speculations are rife that instead of Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi wants Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to lead the party into the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Actually the name of Ashok Gehlot shot into prominence after his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi took place for half-an-hour on Tuesday morning. He also later left for Gujarat as he is the senior observer of the coastal state that is facing assembly election later this year.
However, Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday downplayed the speculative reports of him being the candidate for the next party president, saying he was “hearing this from the media”. So, we have to wait and see until the official announcement comes out.
