All Indian National Congress is all set to have an election for its president post. The notification of this election will be out on September 22. The filing of nomination will begin on September 24 and will continue till September 30. The election will be held on October 17 and the results will be announced on October 19.
Meanwhile, we now hear that senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor will contest for the president’s post this time. Though Tharoor hasn’t opened up on these rumours yet, his recent article for the Malayalam daily Mathrubhoomi hints at his contention.
In his article, Shashi Tharoor called for a free and fair election. He also stated that ideally, the party should have also announced elections for almost a dozen posts of the Core Working Committee (CWC). We may get clarity about Tharoor’s contention in a few days.
It is heard that Rahul Gandhi is not interested in contesting for the presidential post. He resigned from the post after losing the 2019 elections. Later, Sonia Gandhi took charge as the interim president. She offered to quit in August 2020 after an open revolt by the party leaders. However, she continued to remain in the post after the compulsion of CWC.
