A couple of months ago, the crisis in Srilanka created a storm across the world. During the crisis time, instead of handling it, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country. However, he has returned now, and the government provided him with an official residence. Rajapaksa fled in the early hours of July 13 after massive protests in Colombo.
The demonstrators, enraged with the economic devastation, barged into his official residence and office. So, he resigned and had left to Singapore first and then to Thailand. When enquired multiple times, the President’s office did not respond on his return.
However, before being whisked to the residence provided by the government, the former president met with a group of ruling party members. Due to security reasons, he is currently not allowed to step out of his room too.
As of now, Rajapakse had not indicated any plans. The government is also still planning to do something about the current situation and there is no clarity over the same.
