September 5th of every year marks ‘Happy Teachers Day’.

We all knew that we celebrate Teachers Day on the particular day, marking the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was an Indian philosopher and politician who served as the 2nd President of India from 1962 to 1967 and the 1st Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962. He also worked as a teacher and as a mark of respect to him, we all celebrate the Teachers Day.

On this day, the government of India extends respect to the best teachers in the country. The President of India will confer the National Award to Teachers. The purpose of the National Awards to Teachers is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honor those teachers.

When some students approached him with the request to celebrate his birthday, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan politely said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day.”

That’s how the Indian government started celebrating the day as Teachers Day.

The following are some of the greatest quotes said by Radhakrishnan.

  1. “Books are the means by which we build bridges between cultures.”
  2. “When we think we know, we cease to learn.”
  3. “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.”
  4. “It takes centuries to make a little history; it takes centuries of history to make a tradition.”

On this Teachers day, let us also celebrate and honour some of the best teachers around us.
