On Monday, UK foreign secretary Liz Truss won the Conservative Party leadership contest. She won this election by defeating her rival Rishi Sunak and was elected as a replacement for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
This 47-year-old senior defeated her rival and former finance minister Rishi Sunak, with 81,326 votes to 60,399 among party members. Interesting thing is that she will be the UK’s third female Prime Minister and the fourth Prime Minister from the Conservatives party.
Talking to the media after winning the elections, Liz Truss said, “I am honored to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party. Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country. I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom’s potential.”.
“I know, we’ll deliver, we’ll deliver, we’ll deliver,” Liz Truss added.
