September month has a long history of drenching Hyderabad with heavy rains and filling the streets with floods and traffic jams. The recent floods in Bengaluru, which have stagnated the flow of work and the daily lives of ordinary citizens, is scaring the citizens of Hyderabad and the people are raising concerns regarding the preventive & safety measure of the Government.
Looking back at the historical records, right from 1591 to 1908, there have been around 14 floods that have washed away the city.
1908 floods were recorded as one of most tragic as it has washed away around 2000 houses and around 15000 people died during the floods. The Moosi river was flowing densely at around 60 feet, which recorded around 16 cm of rain within 36 hours.
With the eccentric weather around the city, there has been a wide spread of viral fevers & dengue along with the spread of COVID. All these are raising severe concerns and the government should plan ahead to handle this.
The situation of rain in Hyderabad always brings criticism to the government. We have to see how the government will now tackle the issue.
