After breaking ties with BJP and forming a fresh alliance with RJD, Bihar Chief Minister Nithish Kumar is being projected as leading PM candidate among opposition leaders. While West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee & Telangana Chief KCR who are claiming to be the face of opposition from last few months, Nithish Kumar has already started campaigning and offering poll promises if he comes to power.
The Chief Minister of Bihar recently attended an event at Patna and spoke to media saying “If we get a chance to form a Non-BJP government in the country, we will ensure special category status to all the backward states in the nation. It is definitely implementable.” Recently, Nithish toured Delhi and met several national leaders from various parties including Congress. He has been highlighting on multiple platforms about importance of coming together of oppositional parties in fighting Bharatiya Janata Party.
Nithish has been demanding for special status for Bihar since 2007, but he couldn’t strongly fight for it as he was in alliance with BJP. Taking the financial and economic conditions of a state into consideration, Centre will allocate funds in 90:10 ratio to states and centre respectively. A total of 11 Union Territories/States including Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland and Sikkim are enjoying special category status. AP and Bihar are continuously demanding for the special status from last few years.
