Modi attends former Japan PM Shinzo Abe’s funeral in Tokyo

Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Tokyo to attend the state funeral of former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

For the unversed, Shinzo Abe was attacked on July 8 in the city of Nara during a campaign speech and died later that day. He was shot at about 11:30 am in Nara on July 8, east of Osaka, while he was present at an election campaign and was giving a speech on the street.

Later, he was immediately shifted to the hospital , but unfortunately was pronounced dead at 5:03 pm in the evening.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida ahead of the state funeral ceremony for Shinzo Abe.

Expressing grief over Abe’s demise, PM Modi said “We are meeting during this sad time. I would have never imagined of such news. He [Abe] played a vital role in making strong India-Japan relation. I am confident under your [Kishida] leadership, our relation will become more strong.”

Apart from PM Modi, almost 55 other current and former world figures have gone to Japan for the ceremony as the country is divided over the state funeral being given to former PM Shinzo Abe.
