Supreme Court’s blow to Uddhav Thackeray in Shiv Sena case; Edge to Eknath Shinde

On Tuesday, the Supreme court of India allowed the Election Commission of India to take a decision on who owns the real Shiva Sena. Uddhav Thackeray has filed a case in the court claiming that Shiv Sena belongs to him but Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde also filed a complaint that Shiv Sena belongs to him. Who is the real Shiv Sena is the big question and the developments hint that Eknath Shinde has an edge over Uddhav Thackeray.

A Constitution bench, headed by Justice DY Chandrachud, heard the application of the Thackeray group and involved the Election Commission of India to take a call on the same.

A bench comprising of judges MR Shah, Krishna Murari, and PS Narasimha said, “We direct that there would be no stay of the proceedings before the Election Commission.”

Uddhav Thackeray was confident that the court’s verdict would come in his favor, but unfortunately, things did not go well. Eknath Shinde Shinde was sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra and had support from BJP, and Devendra Fadnavis is the deputy chief minister.

In the Shiv Sena split, there were many questions raised related to defection, merger, and disqualification. The issue is in front of the court, and more clarity will arrive in the coming days.
