The Uddhav Thackeray faction and the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena are fighting against each other to claim the party’s ‘bow and arrow’ poll symbol. Eknath Shinde’s faction met the Election Commission on October 7 and staked claim over the party’s symbol. The Election Commission asked Uddhav Thackeray’s faction to respond by Saturday regarding the claim made by the rival faction.
The dispute for the party symbol popped up ahead of the Assembly by-poll elections in the Andheri East constituency. In a letter to Thackeray, the Election Commission asked him to furnish comments along with requisite documents latest by 2:00 pm on October 8.
Thackeray wrote a letter to the EC regarding the same. He said that Eknath Shinde quit and thus, he can’t stake claim to Shiv Sena and its symbol. The EC is yet to respond to Thackeray’s comments.
Shiv Sena broke into two factions earlier this year when Eknath Shinde formed the rebel group and dethroned Uddhav Thackeray from the Chief Minister’s position. With the support of the BJP, Eknath Shinde formed the government and became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Now, the dispute raised within these two groups regarding the party symbol is due to the upcoming by-polls. We have to see who wins this fight in the end.
