Mani Ratnam’s period epic Ponniyin Selvan Part: 1 is having a dream run at the box office. The film is receiving a thumping response, especially from Tamil audiences. Already, it joined the $5 million club in the USA. Now, it is inching close to the 400-crore worldwide gross.
In the USA, Ponniyin Selvan became the first non-Rajinikanth film in the last 25 years to become the highest-grosser among Tamil flicks. It has now surpassed the USA collections of Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and emerged as the all-time no.1 Tamil movie in the USA in terms of collections. As of now, PS-I earned more than $5.54 million in the United States.
Meanwhile, it also nearing the 400-crore mark in terms of the worldwide gross. It is expected to join the club in a day or two. With this feat, PS-I becomes the third Tamil film, after 2.0 and Vikram, to join the 400-crore-club.
Ponniyin Selvan features Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles. Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, and Vikram Prabhu played the other important roles in it. AR Rahman composed the music for it. Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies jointly bankrolled the project.
