Sonia’s support to Mallikarjun Kharge in Congress Polls: Kharge calls it a rumor

Congress Party’s veteran leader and the party’s presidential candidate Mallikarjun Kharge denied the rumours of him getting support from Congress’s interim president, Sonia Gandhi. He said that Sonia didn’t suggest his name for the presidential position.

He said that Sonia never suggested his name for the president’s post and asserted it as a mere rumour. “I have never said this. Sonia Gandhi clearly stated that the Gandhi family will not involve in the election or support any candidate,” said Kharge in a press meet on Tuesday.

“Someone spread this rumour to defame the party, me and Sonia Gandhi. She has clearly stated that she will not participate in the party elections or support any candidate for the president’s post,” he further added. Kharge stated that the party has 9300 elected delegates who will vote for the candidate. The one with the majority will be the next president of the Congress Party.

He said that he is not here to see his chances of victory and added that the members who want to see him as the president will be responsible for his win. Kharge will be competing with Shashi Tharoor for the post of Indian National Congress President. The polling will be held on October 17 and the counting will happen on October 19.
