Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a motto to promote financial inclusion, dedicated 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) to the nation on Today. With this launching, the setting up of 75 DBUs in 75 districts of the country was done to commemorate the 75 years of independence of the country.
This launching ceremony was also attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das via virtual mode.
As per the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) report, DBUs will be brick-and-mortar outlets that will provide a variety of digital banking facilities to people such as the opening of savings accounts, balance-check, printing passbooks, transfer of funds, investment in fixed deposits, loan applications, stop-payment instructions for cheques issued, applications for credit and debit cards, tax and bill payment and nominations.
Talking on this, RBI Governor said, “Heartening to note that commercial banks – both in the public & pvt sector – have responded very positively to this initiative. 75 DBUs (Digital Banking Units) set up in a record 6 months’ time in 75 districts spread across the country to commemorate 75 yrs of independence”.
“RBI taking progressive measures to improve availability of digital infrastructure from banking services. After announcement in Budget 2022-23 for setting up 75 Digital Banking Units,RBI issued guidelines after consulting Indian Banks’ Assn, commercial banks & experts”, he added.
