Telangana: EC releases approved nominees for Munugode by-elections

Telangana: While the stage is being made for Munugode by-elections, the election commission releases the list of contestants who are eligible for participation in the elections. It is reported that around 130 candidates have filed their nominations by the late day for filing, October 14, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 17.

After scrutinising the nominations, the EC has released the list of 83 candidates who are eligible for the fight. Apart from the there leading parties, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) – K. Prabhakar Reddy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and Congress -Palvai Sravanthi, candidates of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and several smaller parties have also filed nominations. The majority are independents. They include some unemployed students of Osmania University and those displaced by the Cherlagudem reservoir.

The by-election is obligated with the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who quit Congress to join the BJP. This is the highest number of nominations filed for the constituency in more than two decades. A special control room was set up in the District Collectorate to receive complaints from the public on violations of the model code of conduct in view of the by-elections.
