T20 World Cup 2022: Two-time world champion West Indies finally got its maiden win in the T20 World Cup 2022. After losing its first match against Scotland a couple of days ago, West Indies needed to win today’s match against Zimbabwe at any cost. The Caribbeans have shown spirit and won the match by 31 runs.
After winning the toss, WI captain Nicholas Pooran chose to bat first. Though opener Kyle Mayers got out early, Charles (45) and Evin Lewis (15) made a partnership of 49 runs for the second wicket. Once the partnership was broken, WI lost momentum. It went down from 77/1 to 101/6 within no time. Sikandar Raza (3/19) and Muzarabani (2/38) troubled the Windies batters with their stunning spells. Rovman Powell (28) and Akal Hossain’s (23*) cameos, in the end, helped West Indies in posting a respectable total of 153/7 on the scoreboard after 20 overs.
Zimbabwe showed intent while chasing the total but it lost momentum once Regis Chakabva and Tony Munyonga. The middle-order batters failed completely. As a result, it kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Windies bowlers banked on the vulnerability of the Zimbabwe batters and never allowed them to score big. Barring opener Wesley Madhevere (27) and Luke Jongwe (29), no other batter was able to do well. As a result, Zimbabwe got all out for 118 runs in 18.2 overs. Alzarri Joseph scalped four wickets (4/16) and Jason Holder (3/12) got three wickets.
After this match, all teams in Group B played two matches each and won one of them. Now, the table turns interesting and we have to see which two teams will make it to the Super 12.
