At least 15 deaths were reported along with 40 other injuries after a bus carrying labourers rammed into a truck on the highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa. The bus, which was carrying about 100 passengers, was on its way to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur.
All the injured people were rushed to a hospital in Suhagi, while people with critical injuries are being treated in Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, officials said to the media. The truck was stranded on the highway because it had an accident with another truck, and this bus then rammed into the truck from behind. Navneet Bhasin, Superintendent of Police at Rewa, said most of the people travelling in the bus were labourers from Uttar Pradesh, who had boarded the bus from Katni, and they reached Katni from Hyderabad in a separate bus on the eve of Diwali.
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the tragic bus accident in Madhya Pradesh. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
