Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most valuable sporting tournaments in the world. It looks like the BCCI is planning to aim at this popularity and expand IPL’s craze to the non-cricketing countries as well. As a part of this plan, we now hear that the upcoming IPL auction may take place in Turkey’s capital Istanbul.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Turkey is one of the strong contenders for the IPL 2023 auction which will be held in December this year. Apparently, Arun Dhamal, the new IPL Governing Council’s chairman, has put forth the proposal of hosting the event in Istanbul.
Currently, discussions are being held with the governing council members and all ten franchises. A final decision is expected in the first week of November. If not Istanbul, the mini-auction will be most likely held in Bengaluru. We have to wait for a few days to get confirmation about the venue.
A few years ago, BCCI planned to hold the IPL auction in London but due to resistance from the franchises, the plan has been dropped. We have to see if the Istanbul plan gets a nod this year or not. Meanwhile, we hear that the mini-auction will most likely be held on December 16.
