Director and actor Rishab Shetty’s recent sensation Kantara has shown the power of genuine word-of-mouth. The film is not only bagging a greater collection in Karnataka but also in all parts of India.
Now, the latest buzz is that the movie scored another fabulous feat by beating ManiRatnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’s lifetime collection in Bollywood.
Reportedly, Kantara earned almost over Rs 26 crore and is now inching closer to the Rs 30-crore mark in Bollywood. This is indeed great news for Kannada films in the North- belt. Initially, the film was released in Kannada and was later dubbed in other languages due to positive word of mouth.
The Hindi version of the film completed 13 days in theaters by yesterday. Though the film collections started on slow note, now the film is creating records. Marking the same, Trade analyst Ramesh Bala pointed out that the Hindi dubbed version of Kantara has zoomed past Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’s lifetime collection. He wrote, “#Kantara Hindi has crossed #PS1 Hindi Lifetime Nett in India (sic).”
The film, which stars Rishab in the leading role as well, tells the story of a demigod called Bhoota, who trades forest land to the tribe’s people in 1870 in exchange for happiness. However, when the king’s son grows older, he demands to get the land back and dies. Kantara was released alongside Ponniyin Selvan 1 on September 30 and has been competing for showtimes across Karnataka.
