We have just witnessed one of the most remarkable games in the T20 World Cup 2022. South Africa, which was one of the frontrunners of the semifinal race just a few hours ago, is now knocked out of the tournament. In a must-win game against the associate nation Netherlands, South Africa lost by 13 runs. After this game, India officially qualified for the semifinals. The team which wins the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh today will be the second team to enter the semis.
It was a tremendous team effort from the Netherlands. While batting first, the Dutch batters made solid contributions and put a competitive total on the scoreboard. The handy knocks of Myburgh (37), Max ODowd (29), Tom Cooper (35) and Ackermann (41*) helped the Netherlands in scoring 158/4 in 20 overs.
It was not a big total to chase for a team like South Africa. But the Proteas choked once again, as they do in every world cup. The Dutch bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals and bowled at tight lengths. Thus, the South African batters were never able to hit big during the chase. The required rate started increasing and the wickets kept falling on the other end. Eventually, the Proteas managed to score 145/8 in 20 overs. Rilee Rossouw (25) was the top scorer for his team. Brandon Glover bowled an incredible spell (2-0-9-3). Fred Klaassen (2/20) and Bas de Leede (2/25) took two wickets each.
This will go down as one of the historic wins for the Netherlands as they have not only managed to beat a strong team like South Africa but also kicked the opponents from the tournament.
