England is the new World T20 champion. After 12 long years, the Brits have managed to win the T20 World Cup. This is their second T20 World Cup win. Sam Curran, Adil Rashid and Ben Stokes gave their team a memorable victory by five wickets against Pakistan in the final.

After winning the toss, England’s captain Jos Buttler chose to bowl first. His decision proved right as the English bowlers started attacking the Pak batters right from the beginning. With their tight lengths, they troubled the Pak batters. With a low scoring rate, Pak succumbed to pressure and lost wickets regularly. Adil Rashid (2/22) took care of the middle overs while Sam Curran (3/12) showed his prowess in both powerplay and death overs. Barring Babar Azam (32) and Shan Masood (38), no other Pak batter could cross the 30-run mark. Eventually, Pak was able to score only 137/8 in 20 overs.

Everyone thought that it would be an easy chase for England. But it wasn’t. Shaheen Afridi took opener Alex Hales’ wicket right in the first over. Philip Salt and Jos Buttler also got inside the powerplay. The score was 45/3 at one point. That’s when England’s trump card Ben Stokes (52* off 49 balls) formed a crucial 39-run partnership with Harry Brook (20) and a 48-run partnership with Moeen Ali (19). His unbeaten knock helped England in scoring 138/5 in 19 overs.

By winning the 2019 World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup, England proved to be the new king of white-ball cricket.
