FIFA World Cup: France and Morocco advance to the semifinals; Ronaldo’s Portugal is out of the tournament

This edition of the FIFA World Cup is full of surprises. Just the other day, we have seen Croatia beat Brazil in the quarterfinals. Now, another top team, Portugal, is beaten by underdog nation Morocco. On the other side, France had beaten England and qualified for the semis. After the conclusion of the quarterfinals, Croatia, Argentina, France and Morocco advanced to the semifinals.

Morocco continued its dream run in this edition of the World Cup. Portugal benched its star player Christiano Ronaldo in the first half. Meanwhile, Morocco’s trump card Youssef En-Nesyri scored a goal in the 42nd minute and gave his team an advantage. Ronaldo was brought into the field in the second half but he couldn’t do much. On the other side, Morocco got another goal when Walid Cheddira scored in the 93rd minute. With a 2-0 lead, Morocco ended the game and advanced to the semifinals. It is the first African team in history to qualify for the World Cup semis.

In the other match, France took on England. The defending champions were dominant throughout the game. Aurelien Tchouameni gave France an early advantage by scoring in the 17th minute. In the 54th minute, England got a penalty and Harry Kane scored a goal. Soon, France’s legendary player Olivier Giroud scored a goal in the 78th minute and ensured a victory for his team.

The first semifinal will be held on 14th December at 12:30 am IST between Argentina and Croatia. France will take on Morocco in the second semifinal which will be held on 15th December at 12:30 am IST.
