Aftermath of Cyclone Mandous to continue over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka & Kerala

Cyclone Mandous

Cyclone Mandous made its landfall in the historic city of Mahabalipuram near Chennai on the eastern coast of India. Several states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu had to face the wrath of the Cyclone. Heavy rainfall that went up to 10cm and gusty winds that reached 85kmph speed, crossed the land near Mahabalipuram on the 9th of December.

Fortunately, no huge loss occurred. Proactive measures from the Tamil Nadu government made sure that there was no loss of life. But the effect of Cyclone Mandous is here to stay. Named by WMO member UAE, Mandous, which means a “treasure box” shall have a remnant weather system which will bring heavy rainfalls across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh, predicted the IMD. The IMD, in its prediction on Monday, said, “Rainfall warning: Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka & south Coastal Andhra Pradesh today and over Kerala & Mahe during 11th-13th December 2022 and decrease in rainfall activity over the region thereafter.”

The fishermen were asked to not venture into the sea especially in the southeast because of the following prediction “Squally weather (wind speed reaching 35-45 KPH) very likely over southeast & adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and along & off Kerala-Karnataka coast during 11th-13th and over east-central & adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during 14th -15th Dec. 2022.” A moderate rain alert has been issued in Chennai and people were asked to remain careful.
