In the ongoing winter session of Parliament, Congress MP A Revanth Reddy fired up against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after she made remarks on his Hindi. He accused Nirmala of using “divisive language” in the lower house of the Parliament, Lok Sabha. Revanth Reddy, the MP of Malkajgiri constituency, Telangana, was speaking about the depreciating value of the rupee during the Question Hour and referred to an old statement made by PM Modi on the same issue. Nirmala responded to this which led to a war of words.
FM said, “(The man) who comes from Telangana, he says his Hindi is weak. My Hindi is also weak, I will answer in weak Hindi,”. Irked by this, Revanth Reddy stated that this type of division is inappropriate. He said, “I am a Shudra, I may not know good Hindi,” he said in the Lok Sabha. “She may be a Brahmanwadi [Brahmin supremacist], so language may be good for her.” Sitharaman remarked. “My Hindi is also weak, but I will respond to weak Hindi with weak Hindi.” After this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla gave a warning to Revanth and asked him to not mention caste and religion in the house.
Later that day, Revanth took to twitter to express his disappointment with the events and tweeted, “ “Like Britishers, BJP has always followed the politics of divide and rule,” he said. “They have divided the people of the country on the basis of language, food, caste and religion.”
