Ranbir Kapoor is back to the celluloid with an interesting film Shamshera. He played a dual role in the film. Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt are also a part of the film. The film was released today. Check out the film’s review here.

Story:

Set in the 1800s, the story follows a dacoit tribe and their fight for independence against British rule. The story of Shamshera is set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved, and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general, Shudh Singh. This is the story of a man who became a slave, a slave who became a leader, and a legend for his tribe. He relentlessly fights for his tribe`s freedom and dignity. His name is Shamshera. What is his intention? What does he do for his tribe? What happens in the end forms the story of the film.

What’s Entertaining and What’s Boring:

To be honest, there are not many entertaining elements in the film. The film has boring elements in abundance. The plot looks outdated and routine. The story is about the downtrodden, lower-caste tribals. It is one of the stories where there is a formula. There is some injustice happening, and a hero rises. And there begins the struggle. Wanting to free his tribe from this oppression, Shamshera plans a revolt that goes awry, resulting in the ultimate sacrifice. We have witnessed stories like this in the past. But, what is more important is the timing of the film’s release. At a time when the film world is moving to next-gen stories, this outdated story will not work at all, despite it having Ranbir Kapoor or Sanjay Dutt.

Karan Malhotra’s direction is below the expectations. People had a lot of expectations of him after witnessing the trailer. But, in the end, it looks like the trailer alone looks impressive. On the positive side, he has handled the scale and grandeur very well by using his experience. But, on the other hand, the film failed in impressing from the first scene itself. The first half is unimpressive, and so is the second half. The interval point is boring, and the climax, which should have been impressive, is a big letdown. The film fails to give a paisa vasool experience. Also, the film is very much predictable.

Performance of the Cast & Crew:

Ranbir Kapoor single-handedly carried the film on his shoulders. His performance has come out well but however, but it is not of great help. Ranbir Kapoor put his heart and soul into the film. His hard work is ruined completely. On the other hand, Sanjay Dutt played his part well, and then,

The film may disappoint, but he won’t for sure as he gives his best shot. Also, his Shamshera look is very dashing. Sanjay Dutt is quite over the top. Despite him getting a very interesting character, his performance is too loud. He looks ferocious but his performance is not very impressive. Meanwhile, the leading lady Vaani Kapoor looks gorgeous. Her looks and screen presence is very nice. Vani Kapoor’s character has substance but it did not come out well. And then, there is Ronit Roy who is good in his role. Iravati Harshe’s presence is also good. Saurabh Shukla, Craig McGinlay, Chitrak Bandhopadhaya, Mahesh Balraj, Rudra Soni, and Prakhar Saxena are good. The rest of the cast made their presence felt.

When it comes to the technical aspects, except for a couple of songs, the rest of the audio album did not work at all. The visuals are extremely good. The film is banking on extremely beautiful visuals. On the other hand, the score could not help the film. The themes are also unimpressive. The music could have been much better. Anay Goswamy’s cinematography is spectacular. The production design is excellent. The action choreography deserves as special mention. The editing is neat. Technically, the film looks grand and rich.

First Half & Second Half:

The film’s first half is good when compared to the second half. Both the halves are filled with a lot of boring elements.

Impressive:

Ranbir Kapoor performance
Camera Work

Unimpressive:

Music
Screenplay
Story

‘The IBC News’ take on Shamshera:

Shamshera is one film that could have been much better. Unfortunately, the film failed big time because of an outdated story and predictable screenplay. The film does not have any impressive elements and the director also came up with his weakest work. The presence of stars also did not help the film the audiences will reject the film straight away and Bollywood had to suffer yet another debacle with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.

One-Line review:

Shamshera is outdated and unimpressive
