Commonwealth Games 2022 was successfully concluded the other day in Birmingham. The 11-day multi-sport event was a huge success, and even India had a fruitful outing in this edition. On the whole, India won 61 medals which included 22 Gold, 16 Silver, and 23 Bronze medals in the tournament.
India won the highest number of medals in Wrestling (12 – 6 Gold, 1 Silver, and 5 Bronze). Some remarkable achievements included the Gold Medal in Men’s Singles (Lakshya Sen), Women’s Singles (PV Sindhu), and Men’s Doubles (Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy), respectively.
India’s one of the most accomplished sportsmen Sharath Kamal won a Gold Medal in Men’s Singles in Table Tennis. The 40-year-old has an overall tally of 13 medals in his 5 Common Wealth Games appearances. India also won a Silver Medal in the Women’s Cricket T20. This is the first time Women’s Cricket has been included in the Common Wealth Games and India managed to make it a memorable one. To sum it up, India had a remarkable outing in CWG this season and ended up in the fourth position, getting placed after Australia, England and Canada.
