The IBC News Rating
After blockbuster Akhanda, the most anticipated Balakrishna’s mass masala film Veera Simha Reddy has hit the theaters today. Helmed by Gopichand Malineni, let see how the film is
Story:
Jaya Simha Reddy (Balakrishna) along with his mother Meenakshi (Honey Rose) lives in Istanbul. Jaya Simha falls for Eesha (Shruti Haasan) and meanwhile Meenakshi reveals about Jaya Simha Reddy’s father Veera Simha Reddy, who lives in Pulicharla. Veera Simha Reddy’s sister Bhanumathi (Varalaxmi) from the same father but different mother wanted to kill Veera for the past 30 years. But why and why did Veera Simha Reddy leave his wife and son? has to be watched on the big screen.
What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:
Balakrishna as Veera Simha Reddy looks royal and roars in elevation scenes. Fans go gaga during some of the dialogues. The first half is best with top-notch heroism and elevation. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar is excellent in Bhanumathi character. BGM is loud and impressive in parts.
The second half continues at a slow pace and the flashback seems to be dragged out. There are few routine challenges and too many fights in the movie that might entice fans but not normal audience.
Performance of Cast & Crew:
Balakrishna’s high-energy mass performance steals the show. He carries the entire film on his shoulders. The royal look of Balayya in Veera Simha Reddy character is a feast for fans. His swag and style are his biggest assets. As Usual, his dialogue delivery is at its best. Apart from Balakrishna, it’s Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar who stood as another major plus for the film. Though she has done negative roles before, Bhanumathi character stands as the best till date. Her face-off scenes with Balakrishna are terrific. Duniya Vijay gives the best debut in Telugu and is outstanding in his role. Sruthi Haasan has a limited role but is good in it. Honey Rose makes a decent debut. Others are adequate in their roles.
The production values of the film are pretty good. Editing could have been better in the second half. The screenplay is racy. Music by Thaman is as usual high and gives much needed elevations. Ram and Lakshman stunts make people sit on the edge of their seats. Coming to director, Gopichand Mallineni followed his Krack formula and once again proved he can direct pakka mass entertainers.
First Half & Second Half:
First half gives us goosebumps for sure. Except for the initial 15 minutes, the entire first half has plenty of whistle moments. The second half is a bit lengthy and draggy compared to the first half. Mainly, the editor would have concentrated on the flashback episode.
Impressive:
Balayya’s top-notch screen presence
First half
Fierce political dialogues
Thaman songs and BGM
Unimpressive:
Flashback Episode
Predictable story
The IBC News take on Movie:
On the whole, the top-notch first half with average second half gives a feast to Balakrishna fans and stands as decent fare for a normal audience.
