Telangana: CM KCR has appointed A. Shanti Kumari as the new Chief Secretary of the Government

After relieving C.S. Somesh Kumar from his duties yesterday, Chief Minister Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to appoint Mrs A. Shanti Kumari of the 1989 IAS batch as the new Chief Secretary (CS) of the Telangana State Government. She took up the charges today evening, wrote the official handle.

Earlier, The Department of Personnel and Training passed orders relieving Somesh Kumar from the service with immediate effect and directed him to join the Andhra Pradesh government, latest by Thursday. Somesh Kumar who was appointed as the chief secretary on December 31, 2019, approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) during the bifurcation of Telugu states and appealed for his cadre allocation to AP stayed. But the Union government appealed to the Telangana High Court to strike down the CAT order.

A. Shanti Kumar is the first female Cheif Secretary of Telangana State. She has a PG in Marine Biology and an MBA degree. She had been serving as the Special Chief Secretary to the Forest Department until today. For three decades, she was active & associated in the fields of poverty alleviation, education, health and skill development. She has also worked as a Principal Secretary in the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, and as Special Secretary in the TS-iPASS Industries Chasing Cell.
