Team India continued its superlative form in the West Indies and sealed the ODI series by winning the 2nd match by 2 wickets. Axar Patel’s brilliant half-century helped India in winning this thriller. With this victory, India already won the three-match series by 2-0.
After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bat first. Openers Shai Hope and Kyle Myers made a good partnership of 65 runs for the first wicket. After Myers got out, Shamarh Brooks made an important partnership of 62 runs with Hope. In the second half of the innings, Hope (115) and Nicholas Pooran (74) steadied the game for the Windies. Their partnership of 117 runs made sure that West Indies will get a big total. In the process, Hope scored a century and Pooran scored a half-century. By the end of 50 overs, West Indies scored 311/6. Shardul Thakur (3/54) scalped three wickets.
India lost the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill and Surya Kumar Yadav inside the first 18 overs. The score was 79/3 at one point. That’s when Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) made a partnership of 99 runs and kept India alive in the chase. In the process, both of them scored their respective fifties. But at a crucial point, India lost their wickets. That’s when Axar Patel (64* off 35 balls) took the charge and score a smashing fifty. This is his first ODI half-century. With his help, India managed to score 312/8 in 49.4 overs.
The final and nominal ODI will be held on July 27.
