The Delhi government is now witnessing trouble after the CBI raided deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s house. This is about the Delhi liquor policy. On Friday, the central investigation agency raided 21 locations in Delhi-NCR, including Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s residence and the premises of the then Delhi Excise Commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna.

After receiving complaints regarding anomalies and irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy. Sisodia, the deputy CM also holds the excise department.

On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party sources say that the deputy chief minister is being targeted because the center cannot countenance the vast praise, for his overhaul of the healthcare and education systems.

The CBI stated that Sisodia, who is the Excise minister, introduced a new policy on who would be allowed to sell alcohol without the permission of the Lieutenant Governor. It was introduced in November last year and withdrawn eight months later.

The CBI also found that the government attempted to increase drastically private players with licenses to sell alcohol. The CBI says that the private parties who were awarded licenses paid bribes to the Delhi government.

The CBI also claims that heavy discounts were allowed on imported beer resulting in the government losing out on the significant taxes.

Delhi has now reverted to the old policy, because of which the alcohol is now available only through government-owned shops.
