In a great move towards achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat, India has welcomed its first fully designed and developed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant today. INS Vikrant, our country’s first home-made aircraft, is officially commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi. It’s developed at a cost of Rs 20,000 Cr and is seen as a great achievement in defense and security sphere which augurs well for our future.

Speaking at the launch event, PM Modi said ‘INS Vikrant is a manifestation of India’s glorious maritime tradition. It is also a vibrant symbol of Indian pride.’ With this achievement, India has joined a league of Nations like US, UK, Russia, China and France, which have the complete capability to indigenously design and develop an aircraft carrier independently.

INS Vikrant, equipped with state-of-the-art features, is named after its predecessor which played a major role in 1971’s India-Pakistan war. The technically brilliant INS Vikrant is a floating airfield and it has the capability of generating large amount of power that can light up 5,000 houses.
